A Message From Your Property Appraiser

Akin Akinyemi, PhD, RA, CFA, CMS

Spring has officially sprung! As the seasons change, my team and I are celebrating the end of a busy exemptions awareness campaign. During the month of February, we hosted extended office hours and neighborhood filing opportunities throughout Leon County to educate homeowners about the annual March 1 exemption filing deadline. It was a pleasure to be out in the community helping taxpayers save on their property taxes.

As your elected property appraiser, I value the opportunity to advocate for cost-saving measures that help our community’s most vulnerable citizens stay afloat in challenging economic times. I was proud to work with Sen. Corey Simon and Rep. Allison Tant during this year’s legislative session to support a proposed constitutional amendment that would have extended property tax savings to the surviving spouse of a quadriplegic. While that measure did not pass this year, I joined my colleagues from around the state to advocate on behalf of numerous legislative initiatives that will improve the property tax assessment process for Floridians.

My team and I are always looking for ways to enhance the services available to you. I’m always a phone call away if there’s ever anything I can do to assist you.
