A Message From Your Property Appraiser

Akin Akinyemi, PhD, RA, CFA, CMS

As your Property Appraiser, I remain committed to helping every Leon County resident understand how property values are determined and how they relate to local property taxes. This year’s redesigned Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, or TRIM notice, was a major step forward in making that information clearer and easier to understand.

Our TRIM Refresh campaign, launched before the August 18 mailing, focused on helping residents navigate these improvements and learn how to read their notices with confidence.

With TRIM season now complete, attention shifts to the Leon County Tax Collector’s Office, which will mail property tax bills in early November. These bills reflect the 2025 approved millage rates, or tax rates, adopted by local taxing authorities after the public hearings noted on your TRIM notice. The Tax Collector will use these approved rates, along with the property values our office established, to determine each property’s final tax bill.

If you have any remaining questions about your property’s assessed or taxable value, please contact our office. Our staff is always available to review your record and help you understand how your value and exemptions impact your taxes.

It’s an honor to serve as your Property Appraiser, and my team and I appreciate your continued trust and engagement.
