Leon County Property Appraiser Unveils Redesigned TRIM Notice to Improve Transparency and Understanding for Taxpayers

Leon County property owners will soon receive a newly redesigned Notice of Proposed Property Taxes—commonly referred to as the TRIM (Truth in Millage) notice. The updated format is part of the Leon County Property Appraiser’s continued commitment to making property tax information easier to understand and more accessible for all residents.

“Our goal is to empower taxpayers with information they can actually use,” said Leon County Property Appraiser Akin Akinyemi, PhD, RA, CFA, CMS. “The redesigned TRIM notice puts the most important details front and center, with clear language and visual improvements that help property owners understand how their property values and proposed taxes are calculated.”

While the TRIM notice is not a bill, it provides a snapshot of your property’s value and outlines proposed tax rates from each taxing authority based on their budget plans. The actual tax bill will be mailed by the Leon County Tax Collector in November.

Highlights of the 2025 TRIM Notice Redesign:

  • Clearer Value Information: Market, assessed, and taxable values are now prominently displayed at the top of the front page.
  • Color-Coded Sections: New color highlights help distinguish key sections, making the notice easier to read at a glance.
  • Simplified Layout: Public hearing dates of local taxing authorities are now on the back, allowing more space on the front for property-specific details.
  • Online Resources: A scannable QR code links directly to FAQs, exemption resources, and tools to help taxpayers #KnowBeforeYouOwe.

“These improvements reflect our ongoing efforts to better serve the community by making important information more user-friendly,” Akinyemi added.

TRIM notices will be mailed to all property owners in mid-August. Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the Leon County Property Appraiser’s Office at (850) 606-6200 or visit www.leonpa.gov for additional resources.
